James Sayer began his career in the British Army. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Infantry. He completed operational tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, Democratic Republic of Congo and East Timor in addition to 3 years’ service with the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces.
As well as NATO and UN appointments, he commanded a unit of over 400 soldiers in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
On leaving the Army he was appointed the Risk Management Officer in Nigeria for the UKs Department for International Development and later was selected to be Head of Security for the Department with responsibility for the security of assets and personnel operating worldwide. Most recently he was a member of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine with responsibility for the safe conduct of daily patrols in the conflict area.
