Jean is a retired U.S Navy Commander with over 20 years of experience applying leadership, technical skills, 360-degree mentorship, and interactive coaching at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels, to high-performance high-risk teams, even in the most austere environments. He first learned to use Crew Resource Management methodologies as a young helicopter pilot and junior officer with multiple combat support and sea combat squadrons, including as officer-in-charge of a 70-sailor 4-helicopter detachment of naval air ambulances in Basra, Iraq. He further applied those skills as a Foreign Area Officer working in security and capability development programs in Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Recognized for his results-focused drive, he has built a reputation based on an ability to develop successful teams by encouraging a culture of continuous individual and collective improvement, always keeping the “human in the loop” at the heart of performance enhancement efforts.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and received an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Public Policy from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is a native speaker in both French and English, but dabbles in other European and African languages as an avid constant discoverer of others’ culture and history.
