Ryan Tewell is a retired Navy Captain who brings 25+ years of experience leading high-performance teams in dynamic, hazardous, and time-constrained environments at locations around the world. He has been blessed with the opportunity to serve in multiple elite organizations that taught him “what right looks like”, including the Navy test pilot community, the US national rowing team, the Pentagon, and the White House.
During his time in the Navy, Ryan deployed around the world as an H-60 Seahawk helicopter pilot, embarking on surface ships from frigates to aircraft carriers and flying more than 2,500 flight hours in both peace and combat operations. He was selected by the Navy to lead large organizations on three separate occasions. From 2013-2015, he served as the lead executive of the “First and Finest” HSM-71 Raptors – a helicopter squadron comprised of 12 H-60 helicopters and 300+ personnel. For three years, he led the Naval ROTC units in Houston, Texas developing college freshmen into future Navy and Marine Corps officers at five Universities. In 2018, he took the helm as the base commander of Naval Support Activity, Souda Bay, the U.S. military base on Crete, Greece, where he led 1,500+ personnel in the operation of a strategically-located port and airbase in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ryan is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering and captained the men’s rowing team. He holds a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Test Pilot school, and served Fellowships at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory.
