Sam served as a Fighter Pilot in the Royal Air Force flying the Tornado F3 and the Multi-Role Typhoon (Eurofighter) for over 17 years. Sam was a front-line Squadron Executive Officer, ensuring personnel and equipment were Quick Reaction Alert and deployment ready. He commanded multiple detachments worldwide, demonstrating calm leadership skills in high pressured situations and developing a comprehensive understanding of elite team dynamics. After his RAF service, he flew as a civilian contractor, instructing in the Middle East and Far East. Sam gained unique insights into other cultures and business, amassing 3000+ fighter hours. He was charged with developing, analysing and examining Standards and Evaluation procedures to ensure best practices and safety were maintained.
Sam’s career was marked by significant challenges and hurdles as in 2005 some key institutional failures resulted in him having to eject from a Tornado F3 at 500mph over the North Sea. Despite sustaining multiple injuries including a broken leg and spine, he recovered and continued his flying career. Inspired by these failures, Sam more recently transitioned to become an independent corporate trainer, developing and delivering bespoke workshops. He is highly motivated and excited to be working with CAVU to deliver Safety, Leadership and Performance Training.
